According to an on-line essay about co-generation from the EIA (http://www.eia.gov/todayinenergy/detail.cfm?id=8250) about 65% of the energy in a commercial co-generation plant is used for useful thermal output (i.e. steam). It's also helpful to know that the enthalpy of steam is 2769 kJ/kg (at 170 deg C) and that there are 3,600,000 kJ per MWh.
